The Konjac Sponge, buy or not to buy?
So for a long time the konjac sponges came in many brands as a new best and trendy item. But what is it actually?
Konjac, botanical name Amorphophallus Konjac, also written as Konjak, is a plant that occurs naturally in countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, and Indonesia. In China and Japan, the plant is grown in plantations because it is sought after for various applications, such as relieving pain in stomach ulcers or as a weight loss product. But I will focus here on the beauty side of course.
Konjac is a naturally hydrating plant fiber that is alkaline and prevents impurities and excess sebum in the skin. So ideal for use as a face and body sponge, perfect for light exfoliating in a natural way.
The vegetable fibers of konjac sponges are naturally porous, allowing them to absorb moisture and become super soft when they come into contact with water. That makes the sponge mild enough to use even for the most sensitive skin. One of the reasons why today konjac sponges have become hugely popular not only in Asia but also in Europe.
You see them in all different colors and sizes.
An additional advantage is that konjac sponges are completely degradable and therefore not harmful to the environment. Recommend is to get a new one every 3 months. This to make sure that the build-up of harmful bacteria too a minimum. It’s suitable for vegans and vegetarians if the added ingredient is also plant-based. Nowhere is proof that the fancy colored once do more than an original plain konjac sponge. So in my opinion to choose the plain one.
There are two sizes with almost every brand. one for the face and one for the body. They are still the same made except the size and shape. For the body ones are bigger and flatter. is it really necessary not really? Easier to use? a bit. My preference is still round shaped and just for the body a size bigger. So you can circle it around the body!
Did you try one on your skin already?
