The biggest skincare mistakes.
Some days at work i almost cry because the ignorance of some people when it comes to skincare. And maybe they are just not interested in it. And that is fine. But the ones that think they know it better than the professional is tiresome. Of course we as professionals don’t know everything. But we studied our ass off! And we are proud of it. Luckily many want to learn and get a better skin. So here are some mouth dropping things i still hear.
Too much exfoliating the skin. Daily exfoliating the skin is useless. You will damage the natural skin barrier. The skin will lose hydration. And make your skin more fragile, older, dryer and more dull. Your skin will get clean with just a milk and lotion combo. That fresh tinteling feeling that daily scrubbers love, is your skin screaming you to stop. And is always between your ears that you need it.
Always the same routine. Year in and years out using the exact same routine is pointless. With the change of season the skin needs different care. Also hormonal changes have a great impact of your skin. When you never change. The skin will get problems. So go get a skin analyse four times a year. And change it up!
Aggressive cleaners. You don’t want to know how many people use the wrong cleansing for the face. When the cleanser is not suited for your skin type your skin will react badly. With irritated, dull or even acne as a result. make sure it matches. I can’t say it enough.
Not removing your make up. This is one that has to be the worst crime of all. There is no excuse now a days. It only takes 2 minutes to use micellar water. Like Nike says: JUST DO IT!
Way too much in one go. Using more products on the skin than the skin can absorb at once is pointless. And a lose of your valuable products. Every skin has different needs. Usually a skin can absorb after cleaning, a serum, a fluid and creme. If you use more it just lays on the skin and you just rub it off.
First thing first. As you don’t need to use too much product in one go. Using it in the wrong order is another no go. The only rule about this: lightest texture first. The only exception is your cleaning routine. You likely use a milk and lotion/tonic combo. Of course is milk thicker in texture.
Still thinking you only use sunscreen when you go on holiday or beach is a huge mistake. Every day you come in contact with the sun. And every day this causes damage to the skin. Now we have still a higher number of skin cancer on a younger age. This is pretty bad. So please use sunscreen everyday also when it’s cloudy.
No patience. To see how your skincare routine works it takes a approximately 28 days. Depending on age this can vary a bit. This is due to the cell renewal of the skin. So to see any results you need at least one or two months patience. Your skin can react if you go to fast. And take too little of time.
